Facilitate field studies in rainforest ecology

The Agumbe Rainforest Research Station is strategically situated in the midst of the Agumbe Reserve Forest and is well on its way to developing and offering all the facilities that a researcher or student could want:

  • A clean, dry place to stay
  • A kitchen with good wholesome food
  • Basic transport facilities
  • Basic field data-collection equipment
  • Library with a growing collection of scientific journals and reprints
  • Assistance in procuring permits for research work
  • Highly skilled local field trackers
  • A steady stream of volunteers for field work assistance
  • Expertise in a range of subjects
  • Automatic weather station
  • A lab to work in (under construction)
  • Support from local villagers
  • Broadband internet connectivity

The research station is powered almost exclusively through alternative energy: solar power during the summer bolstered by a micro hydel turbine during the monsoon.
